Learn Leaderless Resistance


All people create some form of government. Mankind has always had some form of organization for cooperative efforts. Some under compulsion, some voluntary.

What form does it take? Does it necessarily have to take on the appearance and function of diluted monarchy? Is it a voluntary organization? Or, is one compelled against one's will at the point of a sword to participate, genuflecting in silent compliance or else? Who institutes it and how?

Ultimately, it is what government does that determines its legitimacy.

I agree with the unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. - That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, - That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

Therefore, since this present form of FEDGOV has become worse than that of old King George, the same principles that drove the founding fathers should drive us as well. However, not all are to the personal point of moral and philosophical separation from this form of government. We are in a philosophical war for the hearts, minds and will of our countrymen. It is no different philosophically now than the battle for the hearts, minds and will in the 1760s.

The question has always been on the nature of government. The societal awareness, the group mind if you will, evolved from beyond the concept of divine right, heredity, religious institutional control and monarchical ownership. It evolved because of the fervor, passion and willingness to resist the old order. Just as the Declaration of Independence listed the wrongs perpetrated by King George that justified separation, we also must wake up to the wrongs perpetrated by FEDGOV that have exceeded those of King George and that also give as much if not more justification for separation from this form of government.

We would not be the first of our countrymen to come to reasons for separation. However, they took up arms and we cannot, yet. In spite of how justified their economic and political reasons were they faulted on the moral philosophy in their hypocrisy of whom freedom and liberty applied to. We also cannot fault on this as well.

What we can do is vanguard a new enlightenment of personal liberty and voluntary cooperation. It must be done without hypocrisy and apply to everyone. The cause is not lost, it is only smoldering in the zeitgeist, the group subconscious cultural mind of our people. They have the words, ideas, and beliefs, the moral and philosophical fuel for freedom. However, it is being suppressed with the wet blanket of belief that what they have is all that they may obtain and in some circumstances relinquish for security.

Our job is to remove this blanket, this “burka” of minimalist liberty that this FEDGOV has placed over Lady Liberty.

This IS a war for independence. However, before any arms are taken up in defense of freedom the war of words and will must be waged in the hearts and minds of the people. They will eventually come to a crossroads as our founders did. Each one of us must make a decision of which way to go. Which way they turn is partially up to us. Just as our founders confronted an insecure future for their unique freedom venture and pressed on, we also must harden our philosophy, will and way to press on for a liberal liberty and not a hologram of freedom. However, our message must be clear, bold and new.

Thomas Jefferson said that, "When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil."

Also, "Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty.” -Samuel Adams.

Furthermore, "Honour, justice and humanity call upon us to hold, and to transmit to our posterity, that liberty, which we received from our ancestors. It is not our duty to leave wealth to our children: but it is our duty, to leave liberty to them. No infamy, iniquity, or cruelty can exceed our own, if we, born and educated in a country of freedom, entitled to its blessings, and knowing their value, pusillanimously deserting the post assigned to us by Divine Providence, surrender succeeding generations to a condition of wretchedness, from which no human efforts, in all probability, will be sufficient to extricate them; the experience of all states mournfully demonstrating to us, that when arbitrary power has been established over them, even the wisest and bravest nations, that ever flourished, have, in a few years, degenerated into abject and wretched vassals." (from the Resolutions of Committee for the Province of Pennsylvania - 1774)

Therefore, we must wage the precursor war of competing philosophies and moralities NOW if we ever hope to see a relatively peaceful metamorphoses into a liberty society. We must wage a war of ideas against an enemy with superior numbers and finances. It must be an intellectual guerilla war attacking the weak points of this culture of limited liberty.

We must encourage and supply the philosophical, moral and patriotic reasoning as the foundation for the reformation of the government of the USA. The pendulum must be returned away from the abuses of Federal central government back toward the intent of the Articles of Confederation. This “Federal Constitutional” experiment has proven to be a failure in limiting central government. Therefore, since this present government has continually usurped, eroded and infringed on rights we have a right and duty to alter or abolish it and for a new government that will secure individual rights as per the Declaration of Independence.

It is clear, therefore, that it is time to rethink traditional strategy and tactics when it comes to opposing a modern police state. America is quickly moving into a long dark night of police state tyranny, where the rights now accepted by most, as being inalienable will disappear. Let the coming night be filled with a thousand points of resistance. Like the fog that forms when conditions are right and disappears when they are not, so must the resistance to tyranny be.

The liberty method of this philosophical, moral and patriotic resistance is:

Leaderless Resistance

The concept of Leaderless Resistance was proposed by Col. Ulius Louis Amoss, on April 17, 1962. Fearful of a possible Communist take-over of the United States of America, Col. Amoss propounded this doctrine as an effective means of resistance that the American people should utilize against a Soviet-style tyranny. Essentially, this doctrine holds that the most effective opposition against an oppressive tyranny is to have a movement that is as decentralized as possible with no central leadership.

The concept of Leaderless Resistance is nothing less than a fundamental departure in theories of organization. The orthodox scheme of organization, both for government as well as opposition organizations, is diagrammatically represented by the pyramid, with the mass of followers at the bottom and the leader at the top. This fundamental method of organization is to be seen not only in armies, which are of course, the best illustration of the pyramid structure, with the mass of soldiery at the bottom responsible to corporals who are in turn responsible to sergeants, and so on up the entire chain of command to the generals at the top.

This scheme of organization, the pyramid, is however, not only useless, but extremely dangerous for the participants when it is utilized in a resistance movement against state tyranny. This is more so in technologically advanced societies where electronic surveillance can often penetrate the structure revealing its chain of command. Experience has revealed over and over again that anti-state; political organizations utilizing this pyramid method of command and control are easy prey for government infiltration, entrapment, and destruction of the personnel involved. This has been seen repeatedly in the “Patriot Movement,” and its variations of legal reform, truth in taxation, jury nullification, and militia groups, where pro-government infiltrators or agent provocateurs weasel their way into patriotic groups and destroy them from within.

In the pyramid type of organization, an infiltrator can destroy anything that is beneath his level of infiltration and often those above him as well. If the traitor has infiltrated at the top, then the entire organization from the top down is compromised and may be traduced at will. The entire movement is thus wiped out in one stroke.

An alternative to the pyramid type of organization is the cell system. In the past, many political groups have used the cell system to further their objectives. The best example is the American Revolution and its "committees of correspondence" which were formed throughout the thirteen colonies. Their purpose was to subvert the government and thereby aid the cause of independence. The "Sons of Liberty", who made a name for themselves by dumping government, taxed tea into the harbor at Boston, were the action arm of the committees of correspondence. Each committee was a secret cell that operated totally independently of the other cells - an excellent example of `Leaderless Resistance'. Information on the government was passed from committee to committee, from colony to colony, and then acted upon on a local basis. It is notable that the response of the committees, despite the complete lack of a central leadership, was remarkably similar from cell to cell. It was, as the first American patriots knew, totally unnecessary for anyone to give an order for anything. Information was made available to each committee, and each committee acted as it saw fit.

From the above discussion it is clear that the pyramid type of organization can be penetrated quite easily and it thus is not a sound method of organization in situations where the government has the resources and desire to penetrate the structure; which is the situation in the Indian Union. It is evident that the best model is that of Col. Amoss who proposed the "Phantom Cell" mode of organization. This he described as Leaderless Resistance. A system of organization that is based upon the cell organization, but does not have any central control or direction, that is in fact almost identical to the methods used by the Committees of Correspondence during the American Revolution. Utilizing the Leaderless Resistance concept, all individuals and groups operate independently of each other, and never report to a central headquarters or single leader for direction or instruction, as would those who belong to a typical pyramid organization.

At first glance, such a type of organization seems unrealistic, primarily because there appears to be no organization. The natural question thus arises as to how are the "Phantom cells" and individuals to cooperate with each other when there is no intercommunication or central direction? The answer to this question is that participants in a program of Leaderless Resistance through phantom cell or individual action must know exactly what they are doing, and how to do it. It becomes the responsibility of the individual to acquire the necessary skills and information as to what is to be done. This is by no means as impractical as it appears, because it is certainly true that in any movement, all persons involved have the same general outlook, are acquainted with the same philosophy, and generally react to given situations in similar ways. The pervious history of the committees of correspondence during the American Revolution shows this to be true.

Since the entire purpose of Leaderless Resistance is to defeat state tyranny (at least insofar as this essay is concerned), all members of phantom cells or individuals will tend to react to objective events in the same way through usual tactics of resistance. Organs of information distribution such as newspapers, leaflets, computers, etc., which are widely available to all, keep each person informed of events, allowing for a planned response that will take many variations. No one need issue an order to anyone. Those idealist truly committed to the cause of freedom will act when they feel the time is ripe, or will take their cue from others who precede them. While it is true that much could be said against this type of structure as a method of resistance, it must be kept in mind that Leaderless Resistance is a child of necessity. The alternatives to it have been show to be unworkable or impractical. Leaderless Resistance has worked before in the American Revolution, and if the truly committed put it to use for themselves, it will work now.

It goes almost without saying that Leaderless Resistance leads to very small or even one-man cells of resistance. Those who join organizations to play "let's pretend" or who are "groupies" will quickly be weeded out. While for those who are serious about their opposition to federal despotism, this is exactly what is desired.

Conversely, the last thing Governments would want are a thousand different small phantom cells opposing them. It is easy to see why. Such a situation is an intelligence nightmare for government intent upon knowing everything they possibly can about those who oppose them. The Government able to amass overwhelming strength of numbers, manpower, resources, intelligence gathering, and capability at any given time needs only a focal point to direct their anger. A single penetration of a pyramid type of organization can lead to the destruction of the whole. Whereas, Leaderless Resistance presents no single opportunity for the Federals to destroy a significant portion of the Resistance.
