Historical Political Events for February 21

1431 The trial of Joan of Arc begins.
1848 Karl Marx publishes the Communist Manifesto.
1968 A Delta Airlines jet carrying 169 passengers is hijacked over Florida and forced to land in Cuba. This was the start of a wave of hijackings to Cuba (only the hijacker could have a weapon so passengers were defenseless). The government instituted much tighter security at airports with metal detectors and other nuisances which brought the problem under control.

1973 Israeli fighter aircraft shoot down a Libyan Airlines jet over the Sinai Desert, killing 108.
1996 The food police, CSPI, attack America's favorite breakfast. More here.
1997 An internal investigation by the US Defense Department concludes that when it trained Latin American death squads how to employ assassination, torture, blackmail, and other such techniques against leftists, it didn't do anything wrong.
